Product Focus - pSeries
Once known as the RS/6000 and representing IBM’s product entry in the Unix marketplace, IBM’s newest pSeries models are POWER5-based servers specifically designed for data center consolidations and larger enterprise clients. The newest offerings outpace comparable competitive systems as well as their own predecessors in the IBM pSeries 600 line. There are presently two models in the POWER 5 arena:
The IBM eServer p5 590 can deliver outstanding performance at a cost previously unseen in information technology. The p5 590 is up to 45 percent faster, and costs up to 45 percent less, than its pSeries predecessor, the p690. The p5 590 boasts the processing power needed for a wide range of complex, mission critical applications carrying demanding processing requirements. These range from database services to enterprise resource planning and transaction processing.
The IBM eServer p5 595 is the most powerful IBM pSeries available. It delivers outstanding performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility. The p5 595 allows businesses to handle workloads previously beyond the reach of a single Unix-based system. It provides processing power for such activities as business intelligence, enterprise resource planning, transaction processing and ultra high performance computing. The p5 595 features twice the number of processors, twice the memory and nearly three times the performance of the previous pSeries leader, the p690.
