Product Focus - iSeries

iSeries

IBM’s newest generation of iSeries servers, the i5 Series, gives small, medium and enterprise size businesses the ability to run on demand computing for the latest generation of OS/400 (called i5/OS), IBM AIX 5L (IBM’s version of Unix), Microsoft Windows, Linux, IBM WebSphere, Lotus Domino and Java – on a single, integrated, powerful server, and sometimes at the same time through logical partitioning. The i5 Series is the first to be based on the POWER5 microprocessor (the ninth generation of IBM 64-bit processor technology). Currently, there are five models in the i5 line:

The IBM eServer i5 520 is the world’s first POWER 5 processor-based server, targeted at reducing complexity and improving productivity. The i5 520 offers tremendous flexibility in operating system choice, and runs i5/OS, AIX 5L, Windows (via an IXA or IXS) and Linux simultaneously.

The IBM eServer i5 520 Express Edition has been developed for – and is targeted at – small to medium size businesses. It runs a broad range of applications and can consolidate Windows and Unix servers. The i5 520 Express provides users the capability to run their business and not a server farm.

The IBM eServer i5 550 meets the unique infrastructure requirements of mid-size businesses. With memory (range) and disk (range) twice the capacity of the i5 520, the i5 550 is ideally suited for server consolidation and information technology infrastructure simplification.

The IBM eServer i5 570 represents a perfect choice for mid-size to large enterprises. The i5 570 provides multiplatform management and maximum flexibility for businesses or organizations requiring up to 16-way symmetrical multiprocessing capability. It features a 512 GB memory range.

The IBM eServer 595, the latest i5 development, is the largest server in the iSeries family and provides multiplatform management capability and maximum flexibility to medium and large enterprises requiring up to 64-way symmetrical multiprocessing. The i5 595 boasts up to 2 TB in memory.
